My livelihood has drawn from the well of a consumer electronics audio/video career.
It was the music of remarkable artists that led me there.
I just wanted a better audio system to listen to the music.
One of those artists – John Mayall – has passed.
The Blues

John Mayall was inspired, some say obsessed, by the American Blues of Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, Otis Rush, Freddy King, B. B. King, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, and other Blues artists.
His musical passion emerged in the formation of the Blues Breakers.
The Blues Breakers

Mayall launched his Blues Breakers onto the London music scene in 1963.
He exposed American Blues to young British musicians and audiences.
1963, the Blues was nearly invisibly silent, even to American audiences.
Ever-changing Mayall band lineups included music legends Eric Clapton, Peter Green,
Mick Taylor, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Jack Bruce, Hughie Flint, Aynsley Dunbar, Keef Hartley,
Jon Mark, Johnny Almond, and Harvey Mandel.
Brits re-gift to America

These Brits ultimately re-gifted the Blues to America via bands that included the Bluesbreakers,
the Rolling Stones, Cream, the original Fleetwood Mac, Mark Almond Band, and many others.
It may have been the finest British gift to America since the Magna Carta.
His Music
If you’re unfamiliar with Mayall’s music, search his catalog and begin with two classic albums.

“The Turning Point”
Recorded live in 1969 at the Fillmore East in New York City.
The closer “Room to Move” is an audience favorite that filled FM airwaves in the 1970s.

“Blues Breakers John Mayall with Eric Clapton”
Many called this 1966 live studio recording the Beano album because Eric Clapton ignored the camera while reading Beano comics on the cover photo.
It is the album that a Blues/rock enthusiast should own.
Documentary – Godfather of British Blues

In addition, I recommend the documentary “John Mayall – Godfather of British Blues.”
It summarizes his legendary musical journey from London to Laurel Canyon.
It’s a well-spent hour.

Make more room in heaven.

A final comment.
In the late 1980s, John Mayall and his band appeared at a small club in Auburn, California.
I was there. The crowded room was jumping to this Blues/rock legend.
Although he kept the spotlight on his band (particularly guitar virtuoso Coco Montoya), his legendary musical presence dominated the stage.
The performance was a heavenly Blues experience.
May John Mayall have even more room to move.
That’s it for today.
