The SandTrapAudio Competitive Edge … Time.

Trash Talk

I recently discovered online trash-talk aimed at my SandTrap.
OK, the term trash talk is over the top.
But hey, they were talking about my SandTrap.

The SandTrap?

If you’re new to my blog, you may wonder what in the world is the SandTrap.
The SandTrap, a custom in-wall/ceiling speaker sub-baffle, solves an installation problem.

A custom speaker mounted in drywall generates distorting acoustical resonance.
Drywall resonance produces muddy bass, harsh mid-range, and forfeits decibel level.
The SandTrap reclaims the audio fidelity you paid for – tighter bass, warmer vocals, & revived decibel level. Now, let’s address the provocative criticism (trash talk).

The Critics

1. The first critic said he could create an alternative with MDF fiberboard.
2. The second critic proclaimed, “Who needs this sub-baffle? My speakers sound fine.”
3. The third said, “I don’t need to reinforce my drywall. It doesn’t vibrate.”

My Response

Response to the 1st criticism.
This comment came from a competent do-it-yourself individual who understands the importance of the speaker baffle. And I agree. Do it yourself IF you have the skill, tools, and time.
If you don’t, well … keep reading.

Response to the 2nd.
This comment came from an individual with little interest in improved audio fidelity.
You don’t need a reinforcing sub-baffle IF you’re installing a cheap
in-ceiling background (noise) sound speaker – think dentist’s office.

Response to the 3rd.
The vibrating 3rd comment revealed a lack of basic audio understanding.
They claimed their drywall doesn’t vibrate.
1/2 inch drywall or 5/8 inch drywall … it vibrates.
All materials in nature vibrate at their resonant frequency.

Resonance

Resonance is a pivotal acoustical, electronic, and mechanical engineering concern.
Mismanaged resonance corrupts room acoustics, distorts audio components, and collapses bridges.
In this case, mechanical drywall resonance sacrifices the performance of a premium custom architectural speaker system.

Minimizing distorting ‘vibrating’ mechanical resonance is a key objective of a speaker baffle.
The SandTrap ‘re-tunes’ drywall resonance to an unoffensive frequency.
The SandTrap reclaims the audio fidelity you paid for – tighter bass, warmer vocals, & revives decibel level.

The SandTrap Edge … Time

The SandTrap skips lumber yard trips, leaves the saw in the garage, and saves time.
A pair of easy-to-install SandTraps are prepped for installation in about 10 minutes.
They are then inserted through the custom speaker cut-out.

The price of the SandTrap is more than offset by labor/time cost savings.
The audio/video custom installer can reallocate precious installation time to other project tasks.
Both the installer and homeowner benefit from lower labor costs.
Even the do-it-yourself homeowner can save precious weekend time.
In comparison to alternatives, the $69.99 SandTrap is an absolute bargain.

That’s it for today
